Hi Roz — I don’t doubt the performance of your older machine, but I wonder whether the new model bears any resemblance. I have found that when old favourites go to heaven, buying the same brand now is a highly unreliable guide to performance.

As per my previous post on buy espresso machines, I recommend seeing the people at Merlos (Valley and Bowen Hills) for their advice.

Marilyn, I have a Bezzera machine – its the smallest one that bars and tiny cafes buy, it is commercial. It has no bells and whistles, is not computerised and has lasted for over 12 years with 2 services. If people want to know how to make real coffee I suggest they cannot go wrong with one of these. You can opt to plumb it in but we have not so it can travel if necessary. Roz

Thank you, Marilyn, for such a great review of Stanthorpe wines. I am a huge fan of our granite belt Verdehlo’s – love Channons, Symphony Hill and Dr’s Nose (for those happy to travel into Tenterfield). It is worthwhile hunting down Tobin’s wines, particularly for a great Tempranillo and lovely Merlo. The ’strange birds’ winery tour is a great idea for those new to the region. Boireann has really shaken the old prejudices about QLD wine, they are wonderfully complex, interesting reds.
don’t forget to visit the cheese makers at Thulimba – beautiful farmhouse cheeses and enthusiastic proprietors make this a wonderful stop.

It was the best cruise, wasn’t it? I could not fault with anything, and the food on board was as good as top restaurants. Hope we do catch up. Two of the waiters you may remember on board (Ricky and Daniel) are now working at Baguette.

We were on the Orion PNG cruise the month before – fantastic trip – like you, we loved it.
